Hey Readers,
Is anyone out there watching the CW's The Flash series?
Admittedly, I had not seen a single episode of this new show. I've been trying to take care of real life, and somehow missed everything up until this point. Well, that ended with last Tuesday's episode.
I watched The Flash, and was pleasantly surprised.
Having no background with this show, not even watching the related episodes of Arrow, I knew almost nothing about it. I am familiar with Barry Allen and his secret identity, of course, but I knew nothing of this incarnation of the speedster's story.
I went in with unsullied eyes, and that's why I was worried. I actually remember the old Flash series, and didn't want to walk away from this one knowing that it wouldn't last. I wanted it to be good. Like many of DC's characters, Barry Allen (and Wally West) are old friends. I didn't want to get hooked and watch it disappear.
My hopes weren't high, exactly, but they weren't nonexistent either.
Well, the show delivered enough of what I wanted to raise my spirits. Barry is a likeable and well-portrayed character (particularly the scene where he visits his father in prison), and the yellow-suited "Reverse Flash" (half of the reason I tuned in) was relentless and creepy. I didn't expect our hero to feel the kind of helplessness that he does in the episode, and that worked well for me. I had fun watching.
I guess, more than anything, the episode made me curious about the revealed plot lines (particularly the ending's) and wonder what's going on. I want more, and if that's not a measure of success, I'm not certain what is.
I'll be tuning in this week to catch up.
Happy Viewing,
Allen
